There is no general, statutory health insurance in Nepal. Therefore, all people with health problems have to pay for medical assistance and medication from their own resources. These costs are often beyond the means of our students.
We have therefore decided to finance a regular health check-up with funds from the Mahadevi Association. The first one took place on 11 November 2024 at the Mahadevi School in Nakhipot.
Anupendra, who has been our local partner for many years together with his wife Bina, wrote to us to mark the occasion:
‘Today we had a wonderful day with the health check-up camp. The women were very happy. It was a great facility for them.
Several women had problems with blood sugar and blood pressure. Some are on medication after consulting the doctors and some of them don't even realise that their discomfort, sweating and dizziness is due to their irregular blood sugar and blood pressure.
Today, three nurses were there to help the women. They explained in detail all the symptoms and how to use the medication and how the monitoring devices work. It was also like a small training course.
All these women received financial support from our medical fund today. They all take sugar or blood pressure medication and it is difficult for them to finance these expenses. Our help was very useful for them and they were very grateful.
There are still some women who could not come today and I have invited them for the next few days. Our support will continue in the future.
We certainly cannot help everyone, but those who take advantage of our help are very lucky to have this opportunity.
Thank you once again for your decision to provide this medical help for our women.’

On 7 November 2024, our association received a generous donation from the Rotarier Esslingen-Neckarvorland. 10,340€ is a large sum for us, which we can use, for example, to finance the health fund that has just started (see News 05/24).
On behalf of the Nepalese women we support, we would like to thank the Rotary Club and its members.

In February 2024, a long-cherished wish came true:
The Saraswati School has been in existence since 2018 & soon after opening, the women asked if a sewing class could be set up at their school, just like at the Mahadevi School in Kathmandu.
Our board visited the schools in April 2023 & was able to find a room for sewing lessons in Valche Gaun as well as a local confidant, Buddha Ghale, who organised the room renovation, as well as the procurement & installation of the sewing machines.
On 5 February 2024, we received the news that the first sewing lesson had taken place.
Older & current photos of Valche Gaun in the gallery, the description of the school in on our school page.
Not to forget - a big thank you to the Georg Kraus Foundation (-> link available in German only), which has been co-financing our sewing classes for years.
